Last week, Luke and I went to Camp Barakel to work (Kevin and Taylor are counseling there this summer) in their Summer Technician and Engineer Program. I spent the week preparing the dining hall for meals and serving food to the campers. It was a lot of work, but I had a ton of fun too. I also had some free time (a good time to take a nap!).
Our counselors challenged us to memorize Romans 6:1-5:
“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His.” (ESV)
The chapel sessions were about having a cross-centered life. I was reminded that I need to die to my sin and live to Christ. I realized that I love my sin and too often I let it take the center of my life, instead of the Gospel being at the center. I am not truly living to Christ if I’m still living in sin! I loved learning more about the Gospel and worshiping God with singing.
I made some great friends, good memories, and I grew closer to God. It was a great way to start a cross-centered summer. I loved being at camp and I can’t wait to go again!
Thanks for sharing. So glad you were able to go serve Christ and others at Barakel.
